Auntsfield Single Vineyard Pinot Noir

£30.00

Auntsfield Estate Single Vineyard Pinot NoirAuntsfield Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is a deep ruby colour.
There are aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and Doris plum aromas are complimented by more savoury aromas of dark chocolate, forest floor, cigar box and floral notes.
The palate of this wine shows a rich silky texture which is full and concentrated. Interwoven flavours of spice, dark fruit and savoury characters are revealed by a succulent and fine tannin structure.
The structure of Auntsfield Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is tight, yet rich and full with seamless length.
Auntsfield Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir was made with a minimalist philosophy, designed to enable the characteristics of the grapes and the vineyard to be revealed.
The fruit was hand-harvested, hand-sorted, gently destemmed and gravity-fed to tank.
Fermented with a combination of indigenous and cultured yeasts, careful hand plunging was utilised to gently extract flavours and tannins from the skins. Maturation occurred in French oak barriques for approximately 10 months.
Auntsfield was bought by the Cowleys in the early 90’s when it was still an unplanted cattle farm.
However, when they researched the property they discovered it had actually produced wine from 1873 through to 1925 which made it the first commercial winery in Marlborough planted some 100 years before anywhere else!
David Herd was a man with imagination. In 1854 he arrived in New Zealand and looked at the land he was farming. While everyone around him was looking around and thinking “sheep” he looked at it and thought “wine”.
With this vision he became Marlborough’s founding winemaker. This is now a region famed throughout the world for it’s wine, but it was Herd who first saw that potential.
He decided that the landscape, the soil and the weather were all perfect for wine. Hidden away on the vineyard is Herd’s original wine cellar. The place he created and stored his first wines. Which you can see on their logo.
